General appearance.

remotely, Judgement manifests chiefly in visions, trances, and lungs. although her exact shape is fluid, a number of common motifs bind it together. she is the foulness of pestilence. she is the film of pollution. she is something vast and furious. she is the feeling of nails growing beneath your nails and eyes inside your eyes—she invades your senses in order to create herself through you. she is a single purplish rhomboid eye-symbol, glowering from shadow.

Judgement's core, the immortal cell, is rich with pulsing violet light and emits a low, vibrating hum. it is about as tall as a two-story house, a perfectly symmetrical and perfectly cut octahedron of something as transparent as glass. it hovers—is suspended, as if encased in stone—in a bottomless light-sick void behind a doorway that only you can open.

the cell is corroded and diseased, thick tendrils of purple and black burrowing into the wounds in its smooth skin and clinging to it like mould. they have the texture of obsidian and make sudden cracks and snaps as they twist within the cell.

Judgement is weighing you as you watch.

it's actually a little creepy.

Abilities.

as above. Judgement has three conditions for manifestation: either (1) you must be in the physical or mental presence of the immortal cell, or (2) you must be tainted by use of the energy that the cell emits—usually by existing as a being or mechanism that was born, wholly or partially, from that energy, or (3) you must be committed to Judgement by the will of the Jackal, or commit yourself of your own volition.

without manifesting, Judgement can only perceive things through the cell and those things which are tainted by its energy. near the cell, this awareness is close to what a hypothetical human's would be if that human were in a typical state of consciousness and present at the point of the cell's surface which is closest to the sensory phenomenon. as a general rule, the less concentrated the energy, and the further from the cell something is, the more peripheral and less detailed Judgement's awareness of it is. however, physical distance cannot decrease Judgement's awareness of a tainted entity to nil.

(by extension, Judgement's awareness is heightened within the immortal cell itself, and touching or manipulating the cell will evoke overpowering sensory and emotional reactions from her.)

Judgement may attain her full measure of awareness in a particular location where she has at least some presence by manifesting there, at the cost of greatly decreasing her awareness in other places.

Judgement's manifested presence is not physically exhaustible, but it is limited in power by the amount of its self that is present there and its ultimate distance from the cell, much like its non-manifested awareness is.

Judgement can use its manifested form to touch, speak to, exert force on, and mentally direct any person or tainted entity it has awareness of, but conscious beings are able to resist its control if they desire it, and can physically oppose it by their typical means. if facing strong resistance in any of these ways, Judgement will often disperse.

Judgement cannot directly see or interact with non-tainted objects or living beings unless they are in the presence of the cell or have been committed to Judgement by Anubis' touch or their own will, and likewise no one can perceive or interact with Judgement unless they approach the cell or are bonded to it by taint or vow.

Miscellaneous.

Judgement is a sapient being, but also a sort of biological process that began in response to the cell's corruption. it is a reactionary entity, bounded and isolated on all sides by the instinct for destruction.

any of Judgement's abilities may be restricted or altered by her entry into the world of castle perrault, or any other au she joins in future.

History.

from a great wellspring came the immortal cell, a source of boundless power harnessed for the use and betterment of civility. the people of the south were given it as its master, and they wounded it with probes and pipes and cables, and they drank of it until the Jackal wept and howled.

they made with her power machines and industries, children and hope, and they imprisoned her in her cell and toasted with her blood to a bright future, to a victory over need, suffering, and death.

she appeared to them; she bargained with them; but with every bargain they cheated, and they forgot every vow, and they sold every secret, and they skimmed from her back even the sweat of her labour.

and from her tears, and from her blood, and from her sweat that remained, was born Judgement, Ammit, a vengeance festering within the cell, a plea, a promise, a fulfilment.

the people of the south had begun to construct war machines, keen to expand their newfound prosperity into the savage lands beyond their borders. Judgement, born of violence, made these violent instruments her subjects, and turned them in an instant against the authority they were made to serve. the artificial titans broke from the depths, routed the south's fragmented resistance, and set to purging the territories of the four states of everything that lived.

ultimately, the titans were overcome and destroyed. the canyons ran red with the rivers of their blood, the southern labs and the cell were sealed underground, and Judgement turned to other means in order to annihilate what knowledge of the wellspring and what uses of the cell remained.

stretching her influence as far as it could go, she fomented hatred, sickness, and ill fortune among all those who had profited from the creation of the cell—even those whose only crime was that their lives had been fertilised by its energy before they had been born. her work was not yet done, not yet done until they had all been devoured, until the cell was destroyed and all remnant of the cell was destroyed and Judgement was dead and Anubis was free.

then came the drifter with his sword. Judgement recognised him through the blood in his veins, pink with its sickness. he found the scattered fragments of Judgement's desires, he unsealed the path to the cell, and despite all of Judgement's strength being turned against him, he slew her at last; slew her, and broke the cell.

this was the end.
